Organized Obsessions: 1,001 Offbeat Associations, Fan Clubs, and Microsocieties You Can Join
Published in Paperback by Visible Ink Pr (April, 1992)
Authors: Deborah M. Burek, Martin Connors, Christa Brelin, and Deborah M. Burke
Average review score:

Intriguing but useless
Book compiles and briefly profiles 1,001 oddly-themed group, fan clubs, and other assorted organizations. A few are funny, more are odd, but the rest are just boring. Are Elvis fan groups all that surprising given his iconic status in today's culture? The information provided about the groups is almost usless at times because no or limited contact information is given. You (theoretically) might find a group to your liking in here, but there's a good chance you'll have a hard time getting in touch with them using this book. Mildly diverting for a few minutes, but ultimately tedious, the book would have been better served by more in-depth looks at some of the even weirder groups out there.

Off-Season Training for Cyclists (The Ultimate Training Series from Velopress)
Published in Paperback by Velo Press (January, 1998)
Authors: Ed Burke, Edmund R, Ph.D. Burke, and Harvey Newton
Average review score:

Needless Purchase
The book is supposed to give insights into off-season for cyclists, and according to its description one is led to believe that it caters to seasoned cyclists as well as recreational athletes. I felt that the whole book is a synopsis of articles appearing in cycling fitness magazines, and that it is not a useful book at all. To be more precise, I expected some sample programs of what one could do in various winter situations. (Off-season in Germany is very much different to off-season in Arizona) What kind of different sports? at what intensities and with what combination? What do high caliber athletes do? Track riders? Criterium specialists? Time trialists? How about individually (according to bicycling discipline that is) categorized schedules? How about the major question of how to combine weight training (especially squats)and aerobic sports without injuring your knees as I did this past winter! I didn't find any of these questions addressed anywhere in this book. Instead, one finds general information on weight exercises, some information on indoor training, stretching, and so on. Personally, after having read "smart cycling..." by Arnie Baker, I feel that all the information that the "Off-Season" book contains is included in Baker's book along with a whole bunch of other useful training advice. In fact, if one subscribes to any bicycling magazine would know of all the topics the book addressed. Therefore, why buy an individual book on off-season training? I expected more from Ed Burke whose articles I read often. I was dissapointed and I would not recommend this purchase.

A lot of advices bundled together
The only good advice this book gives you is how you should combine weightlifting and cycling throughout the year. It does so by illustrating different exercises, but no schedules or programs are provided. Interesting, but the rest of the off-season advices are more how you do it than why you should do it. How will a certain exercise make me a better cyclist? That is what I want to know. It seems like a lot of good advices have been bundled together and thus lacking an overall plan. Sorry, but I expected more from Ed Burke.

Ring of Fire

Authors: Cinammon Burke, Phoebe Conn, and Cinnamon Burke
Average review score:

Not my first choice!
This book starts off well enough, but the plot is un-realistic, even farther than I'm ready to go. The story drags in the middle, and it's easy to lose interest. Plus, the more time you spend with the heroine, the less you like her because of her continuous complaints. Had I been the hero, I'd have left her in the "ring of fire."

Is ok, but I've read better!
The plot is ok, but I got bored with it after a few chapters.

MCSE TCP/IP Exam Prep (Exam: 70-059)
Published in Paperback by The Coriolis Group (27 March, 1998)
Author: Richard Burke

It's not for MSCE exam...
i failed the exam with this horrible book... I really disappeared why the author put it under MCSE exam prep series. If u just use it as a reference book of TCP/IP, this book can give you a glance inside each packet. But MS is not going to test u such stuff... Even the exam in the CD, it's totally not the same style as real MS's. It even doesn't mention any point which should notice under exam. sigh... This is my first time to fail MS exam. Wasted time, money... I hope if anyone who is going write book, pls don't just for money, pls care about ur readers, or don't write it instead if don't know much about what u write.

Horrible! Avoid at all costs!
I have read a number of Coriolis books to date, most have been very helpful in preparing for my exams. This is the exception. This book has too many typos and technical mistakes to count. Mistakes are NOT limited to simple spelling errors that can be worked around or overlooked. They exist in the diagrams and examples used to explain difficult issues. One wonders if the author has ever taken the TCP/IP exam. The CD ROM with practice tests does not even work! You can take the test, but the program will NOT grade the test or let you review the missed Q's! How helpful can that possibly be?

Very incomplete!
This book can't help you pass the exam in any way! Get the Exam Cram and lots of practice tests instead!

A Guide to Tcp/Ip: On Microsoft Windows Nt 4.0
Published in Paperback by Course Technology (20 March, 1998)
Author: Richard Burke
Average review score:

Tough first book..
I was forced to buy this book for a class. As a newbie to TCP/IP networks it seemed a little sparse and did not really teach me to much about TCP/IP networking. I was very disapointed in the fact that after this class, I was still no farther along in my understanding of subneting. Thankfully the price of hardware bottomed out, and I was able to get a copy of Win NT to practice with, or I might not know how to subnet to this day. It would be an "OK" book for someone just starting out, if they could get it at a reasonable price. This book would not get you through the testing that is going on these days.

MCSE Guide to TCP/IP on MS Windows NT 4.0 w/CD-ROM
A "Terrible" book. I've been reading tech books for years and have never seen anything like it. How Microsoft endorsed this book is beyond me! It tells you how to use NT Help, the desktop, and Find Files (absolute filler - no relevance), but little if any description on "Subnetting" (and everything else). How embarrassing. Save your time and don't get tennis elbow from launching it across the room.

I threw this book into the trash can!
This should be a no - star rated book. I had to select one star as a minimum requirement. This is not a readable book. It is not an accurate book. Even though a student of TCP/IP, I found myself feeling like I was proof reading the thing. The TCP/IP and subnetting info on Technet was a great help in trudging through this mess. It is without a doubt the poorest text I have ever owned. But, I have resolved that wasted bookshelf space by chucking the thing. I would not even give it away... not even as a gag. Get Minasi's NT 4 Server book (sixth edition) and the Exam Cram, or Microsoft Readiness Review. The Minasi Server Book has to be one of the best basic guides to Microsoft TCP/IP around.

Regarding Mr. Burke
I have not read this book, but was so offended by his racist textbook "History of England" that I must ask Mr. Burke: Are you not aware that the "macho" males are genetic mutants, attracted to XYY males?. When you give snide endorsement to Edward being thrust with a hot poker, you define a culture of gays and bi-sexual lesbians. I hear that this is what has become of England since my last visit in 1974.

Sabine Spring was origionally issued as Two For Texas
After waiting several months I finally received a used copy of Sabine Spring. It is an understatement to say that I was disappointed to discover that this book is a reissue of Two For Texas, origionally published by Pocket Books, Inc. in 1982. I have no idea why Burke issued the same book under two different titles but I hope that this review will prevent others from purchasing the same book twice as I have.

Womans Gourmet Sex Book
Published in Paperback by Malibu Publishing ()

written for today's woman???
Although the book has some cute sex tips and I'm sure I'll try out a few- I did NOT like this book. The back of the book says that this book "is written for today's woman." After starting to read- I wondered when it was written. It was published in 1983 however from certain statements written in the book I would've guess 1950s. Again and again there are comments on how women should be submissive to men. And women are OF COURSE weaker than all men (stated like... half a dozen to a dozen times in the book) Women should never let her husband see her not sexy- for a woman should always be dressed up for her man. I would much rather have read any book with sex tips where the authors didn't take it from the view point that I was buying the book only to please my man in bed. Can't a woman want great sex just because she likes sex??
I definetly wasn't expecting some literary masterpiece- I picked it up just for the ... of it but I don't recommend it to annnybody.
